Enisala fortress was built by the Byzantine Imperial power and the Genovese trading one around 1270 AD on the shore of Razelm lake, a Black Sea bay on that times. During the reign of Mircea cel Batran, the citadel fell into the control of Wallachia, being included in the defense system. At the end of his reign, in 1417, the fortress was conquered by the Ottoman Empire.
